The design addresses an inescapable consideration: the encounter with place symbolised by man’s occupation of this mountainous area, seeking to fulfil one of his loftiest aspirations: to conquer nature without destroying it, to sublimate it through art.
The size, height difference and orientation of all three platforms that comprise the site chosen to locate the building, as well as the possible entrances, determined the functional and compositional organisation, which consists of three levels and two sections in distinct spaces.
The basement is located in the front over the lower-level platform and has a rectangular layout. It is on the same level as a lookout platform where two staircases meet the central entrance ramp.
The front section is attached to the rear section, which is the main volume of the structure and is divided into two areas: a multipurpose central area for theatre performances, which also serves as a meeting room, and a museum, which also serves as an exhibition hall divided onto two levels around the theatre.
In the winter, there is a fireplace waiting to be discovered in the centre of this platform and under the central skylight, and the room becomes a homey living room where the residents of the valley get together at weekends and chat around the fire.
The roof is hipped and has a central skylight that illuminates the inside by day, while at night the space is lit with spotlights, generating a visual beacon for the entire valley.
